Arm Lift

What is an Arm Lift?

An upper arm lift is done to tighten loose skin and remove fat to reshape the upper arm. Many individuals choose to undergo this procedure following weight loss to help restore a more youthful looking arm contour.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Individuals who have underarm laxity and who have lost a large amount of weight and are not left with excess upper-arm skin and fat can often benefit from this procedure. Good candidates will be nonsmokers who are committed to a healthy diet and lifestyle. A consultation with Dr. Ehrmantraut can help to determine if this procedure is right for you.

The Procedure

The arm lift procedure is performed under either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Incisions will be created between the armpit and elbow to remove excess skin and fat from the upper arms. Liposuction may also be used to help contour the arm area. Incisions will carefully be closed to help minimize scarring. Although the scar will be visible along the arm, most patients report that the outcome of the surgery is worth the incision line.

Recovery

Compression garments and wraps will need to be worn to help minimize swelling. Swelling, redness, and bruising may occur. Pain medication can help to control any pain. Patients should expect to take at least two weeks off from work to recover. Heavy lifting and extensive exercise should be avoided for up to six weeks. It is important to follow Dr. Ehrmantraut’s post-op instructions to help ensure a safe recovery.
