Liposuction/ LipoSculpture

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a body sculpting procedure to help eliminate stubborn pockets of excess fat. This procedure is often combined with other procedures to help create the desired body contours.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Individuals who are living with localized areas of fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise are often good candidates for liposuction. Candidates should also have good skin elasticity, as liposuction cannot tighten the skin. Patients should also understand that liposuction is not a weight loss solution for those who are obese. A consultation at our Maryland office is needed to help determine if this procedure is right for you.

The Procedure

Liposuction removes excess fat from the body using suction. First, Dr. Ehrmantraut will diagram the treatment areas such as the hips, abdomen, thighs, and flanks. During the procedure, a small, thin tube called a cannula will be inserted through small incisions in the treatment area. The cannula, which is connected to a surgical vacuum, will then be moved back and forth to suction out targeted fat deposits. Any small incisions will be closed with sutures.

Recovery

Following liposuction, a drainage tube may be inserted to help drain away excess fluids from incisions. Compression garments will need to be worn to help reduce swelling. Redness, bruising, and swelling will occur, and any discomfort can be controlled with pain medication. Recovery time will vary among individuals based on the extent of their liposuction. Following the surgeon’s post-op instructions can help to ensure a quick recovery.
