What is Upper Lid Blepharoplasty?

Loose, sagging skin that creates folds on the upper eyelids can sometimes impair vision, impacting a patient’s quality of life. Upper lid blepharoplasty, or upper eyelid surgery, is done to correct functional problems that patients are experiencing with their eyelids. Who is a Good Candidate?

Individuals who are living with drooping upper eyelids that impair their line of vision can often benefit from this procedure. Candidates should be healthy, nonsmokers with realistic expectations for the outcome of their procedure.

The Procedure

During upper eyelid surgery, an incision will be made in the natural eyelid crease. Excess skin, muscle and fat will be removed through this incision to create a more youthful upper eyelid appearance. Because incisions are made in the natural creases of the eyelid, they are virtually invisible when healed. Sutures or skin glue will be used to close incisions.

Recovery

Following upper eyelid surgery, swelling and bruising may occur, which can be lessened with the use of ice packs or cold compresses. Pain is usually minimal and can be controlled with pain medication. Any stitches will be removed after 3-4 days. Patients should avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for two weeks.
